What Do We Mean By Handcrafted?

A finished gear.

The inspirations for Nathan's clocks come from many sources including the French great wheel skeleton clock. He found this design timeless, with its thick gears and high tooth count proven to last through many years of wear.

Each piece is cut by hand out of solid brass and oil hardened steel.  It is important to Nathan to have his timepieces be aesthetically pleasing as well as being a useful, functional piece of furniture.  The cases are designed to have a shadowbox effect. The darkness of the woodgrain giving depth and dimension to the highly polished brass mechanisms. It is Nathan's hope that others will appreciate the beauty that mechanical art can bring.

Hand Pierced Gear Designs

Image:
A unique feature to Nathan's latest clock designs are hand pierced gears.  He has envisioned hundreds of different patterns to use in upcoming pieces. This time consuming process of hand piercing is detailed in the pictures above. The one-of-a-kind pattern is placed onto a gear. Small holes are punched into the gear and a saw blade is threaded through.  One gear can take hours to pierce and file.
